Rising of the Moon

from Rebels and Rogues by DruidSong

/

about

I've heard a couple of versions of this over the years. One is set to the tune best known as "The Wearing of the Green". This version isn't that.

Noel Paul Stookey (Paul of Peter, Paul and Mary), and his fellow travelers developed this arrangement, and I like it a lot.

The song tells of the calling the rebels to arms for the ill-fated rising of 1798. The rebellion failed, but the stories of that conflict live on in Ireland to this day.

Sadly, about the time I started working on getting this song ready, Mary Travers died. She will be sorely missed.
