The Yew Tree

from Rebels and Rogues by DruidSong

/

about

In looking over the sorts of music people associate with the Celtic lands, it seems that Scotland sometimes gets overlooked.

In particular, it appears that folks forget that Scotland had plenty of troubles of its own. The history of Scotland is scarred with warfare, rebellion and knavery to rival that of any other land.

I'm told the yew tree on the title exists. I'm also told that the locals keep its actual location a closely held secret. I'm not sure I blame them for that. Tourists can be awful beasts.

A couple of notes to help clarify some things:

- Flodden refers to a battle between James and the English. James and a frightening number of Scots were killed.

- "moss troopers" are also called border rievers. They're basically bandits, often in the employ of a border lord, and none to picky about where they raid and from whom they steal.
